Title: Saint Serra
Published: Ventura County Reporter
Date: Feb. 5, 2015
About this cartoon: Pope Francis has moved Father Junipero Serra into line to become a saint. The father of California's mission is honored by many for this work, but reviled by many for his harsh treatment of the native population, bringing diseases that decimated their populations along with Inquisition-type harsh measures to ensure their conversion to the Catholic faith.
